Smaller Facilities

Many smaller facilities use less than the threshold amounts of the substances listed on the NPI. This means they are not required to report their emissions to the NPI themselves. However, emissions from smaller facilities may be significant for a particular region. State and Territory environment authorities estimate the emissions from many smaller facilities to ensure that the NPI database is as comprehensive as possible.

Examples of smaller industries for which NPI pollutant emissions are estimated by State and Territory authorities are:

service stations
dry cleaners
fish farming.
