About this report

The objective of this report is to present the emissions estimates of National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) substances from the Perth airshed for the 1998-99 reporting year. It presents the results and describes the 19 aggregated emission sources as well as emissions from NPI reporting facilities that were located within the study area. Emissions of the 90 substances contained in Table 2 of the National Environment Protection Measure (NEPM) for the NPI (NEPC, 1998) are presented. Estimates for 14 of the sources were made in-house by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the remainder by an external consultant.

The Perth airshed study area is 87 km (east-west) and 99 km (north-south) comprising a population of 1.3 million people.

Data from this aggregated emissions study became part of the first national NPI database and was loaded onto the Internet for public access on 28 January 2000.

Update of Perth Airshed Study

The Perth Airshed Emissions Study Report will be updated shortly to correct some errors and revise various estimates. The corrections and revised estimates will also be reflected in the NPI database on the internet.

Additionally, Perth airshed data in the NPI database on the internet will be be updated so that emissions from facilities that did not report in 1998-99, but do so now (2001-02), are no longer included in the aggregated emissions data. This internet data will differ from the revised report, since it uses information which became available four years later and which is different from that used to prepare the report.
